‘The Garcias’ Reboot Gets Premiere Date on HBO Max

We already knew that the Garcia family weremoving back into the neighborhood. Now, we know when. The new comedy series The Garcias, a reboot of the early 2000s Nickelodeon sitcom The Brothers Garcia , is making its way to HBO Max on April 14, 2022, and is expected to have a 10-episode first season.

Along with original series co-creator Jeff Valdez, six of the original cast members are returning, too. Reprising their roles are Ada Morris and Carlos Lacamara as parents Sonia and Ray Garcia; Alvin Álvarez, Jeffrey Licon and Bobby González as brothers Larry, Carlos and George; and Vaneza Pitynski as the lone sister, Lorena.

In the reboot, the Garcias, a Mexican-American family from San Antonio, Texas, are all grown up and vacationing together in Mexico in a fancy beachfront home during summer. Along for the ride are all the children of the original characters.

“The original show was always about a simple slice of life story that happened in this family,” Valdez told Variety when the series was announced last year. “In every episode there’s a lesson to be learned. We wanted to keep that simple contract with our audience.”

New to the series are actors Oliver Alexander, Nitzia Chama, Maeve Garay, Elsha Kim, Ayva Severy, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, and Paul Rodriguez Jr., who is best known for his skills as a skateboarder.

With the cancellation of so many Latine shows recently, it’ll be nice to start rebuilding the catalog across all streaming platforms.
